Things are Cool at Chico Area Recreation and Park District
In the next few weeks, Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) will be opening registration for its popular summer camp series. And thanks to the energy generated by their recently installed solar panel system, the district now has air conditioning in their Field House/Gym at Community Park, one of Chico’s premier public recreation facilities.
In a region where summer temperatures frequently soar above 100 degrees, air conditioning will be a welcome relief to the participants at CARD Youth Camps for Volleyball, Basketball and Olympic Sports during the day. In addition, CARD is now able to utilize the Field House for Adult Basketball and Volleyball in the warm evening hours.
According to Scott Dowell, CARD’s Business Manager, the energy generated by the solar installation has had a significant impact on the district’s utility bills. He expects within 10 year’s time, the project will have paid for itself. Being able to generate additional revenue by increasing the district’s recreational programs is icing on the cake.
CARD found financing for their solar installation project through the CSDA Finance Corporation.
“We were very happy with the financing program offered through the CSDA Financing Corporation. We especially appreciated the streamlined process and the reasonable rates…would definitely use the service again.”
